12 Key Actions of Volunteer Program Champions, Revised (free PDF)

A summary of findings that author Betty Stallings gathered from hundreds of colleagues who nominated executives they considered to be exceptionally supportive of volunteer involvement in their organizations. The 50 CEOs identified as such “Volunteer Program Champions” then were invited to complete an extensive written survey to uncover and assess their actions regarding volunteers. From the survey, “12 key actions” surfaced; actions common among the volutneer program champs and leading to exceptional achievements made via volunteer involvement. Stallings conducted the survey in preparation for the book Leading the Way to Successful Volunteer Involvement: Practical Tools for Busy Executives. (Written primarily for and to CEOs, the book discusses why investing in volunteer programs brings huge dividends to an organization. It also describes the key actions that need to be taken by CEOs to increase the effectiveness of volunteer engagement and numerous ways to diminish identified barriers.)
